Let me say this right away: the Monte Carlo is certainly not the most beautiful or the most impressive hotel-casino in Las Vegas. The resort does not have a strong theme, or even the biggest or the most luxurious hotel. However, it is still one of my favourite casinos. It just makes my heart beat!
The hotel opened in June 1996, and it offers us the opportunity to enjoy European elegance at a rather low price. Compared to many other establishments on the Strip, the Monte Carlo is really cheap, and offers excellent value for money and a beautiful interior design. However, the resort does not have a strong theme. The design is classic and chic, with lots of chandeliers, domes and arches. If you want to avoid the pyramids, castles and themed reconstructions that many resorts in Las Vegas have, this could be a great choice for you. In addition, the casino is very nice, and has an elegant design and nice atmosphere.
Yes, I would like to say it again: the Monte Carlo is my favourite casino in Las Vegas. This is where I usually stay when I visit the Strip.
A decent sized casino
The casino is the main reason why I like the establishment so much. In fact, the games room is very large and offers a comprehensive selection of games, while keeping a reasonable size. It has an area of around 8,500 m², which is still decent and not too large. It is very easy to move around and find the games; especially as it is never very crowded. This is very good for keeping a cool head in the pleasant atmosphere, and remain concentrated when playing the games.
The slot machines
The Monte Carlo casino offers no less than 2,200 slot machines. Among them are :
- slot machines (mechanical, video slots, progressive slots…),
- video poker (jacks or better, joker poker, deuces wild…),
- electronic roulette games,
- games king that allows you to choose between different video poker variants, keno or even blackjack.
The table games
Regarding the traditional games, the establishment offers 60 tables for:
- baccarat,
- blackjack,
- crazy 4 poker,
- craps,
- roulette,
- pai gow poker,
- let it ride stud poker,
- 3 card poker.
Poker
The poker room of the Monte Carlo casino is nestled in a corner near the room for sports betting. The room has a decent size and offers a dozen tables for Texas Hold’em or Omaha limit and no limit poker.
The Race & Sports Book area
Although the gaming facilities at the Monte Carlo casino are generally pleasant, it is absolutely not the case for the sports betting room. The room is very small, and does not make you want to spend a lot of time there watching sports or placing bets. And most of the seats are also rather uncomfortable.
Other nice facilities at the resort
It is not a secret anymore that I do like the casino very much, but obviously the games are not the only thing the establishment has to offer. The Monte Carlo resort also has a hotel, restaurants and various attractions that deserve to be discovered. In fact, it is really for all these reasons that I enjoy visiting this establishment!
A hotel
The Monte Carlo hotel building is 110 m high and has 32 floors. It contains 3,002 rooms and 256 suites. Among them are:
- deluxe rooms of 37 m²,
- high floor rooms of 37 m²,
- spa suites of 65 m²,
- Monaco suites of 65 m²,
- diamond suites of 76 m².
The different rooms and suites are generally very nice, and they are equipped with comfortable beds and a beautiful bathroom. The rooms are also exceptionally clean, and have an elegant decoration that is not too overwhelming. The icing on the cake is that the prices for the rooms are very reasonable.
Restaurants
There are also many places to eat, located under the hotel, and you can visit more than a dozen restaurants offering different types of cuisines:
- French (Andre’s Restaurant),
- Italian (D. Vino and 800 Degrees),
- Mexican (Diablo’s Cantina),
- Asian (Dragon Noodle and Yusho),
- all you can eat international buffet (The Buffet),
- Steakhouse (Brand Stakehouse),
- Diners (Double Barrel Roadhouse and The Pub),
- fast food (McDonald’s, Manchu Wok, Rubio’s, Sbarro’s, Subway and Original Chicken Tender),
- Ice cream parlours (Blvd Creamery),
- Cafés (Sambalatte and Starbucks).
Only a few additional services and activities
However, aside from playing, eating and sleeping, there is not much to do at the Monte Carlo. It offers the following options:
- a relatively small swimming pool area, that still offers many different types of pools (a whirlpool, wave pool, traditional swimming pool…),
- a fitness centre,
- a spa,
- a hair dresser,
- wedding chapels,
- a shopping centre (Street of Dreams).
In conclusion, it must be acknowledged that the Monte Carlo cannot impress everyone. The interior decoration is classic and elegant, but the theme is not very strong, and there isn’t a whole lot to do.
However, the resort appeals to me, and I think it stands out as a great place on the Strip. The location is also very convenient and central, and makes it easy to explore the rest of what Las Vegas has to offer. What makes the establishment stand out a lot is the excellent value for money and the casino. I think there are no other establishments in the city where I would rather play. The casino is not too big and not too busy, and it is a lot of fun to play the games there.
I would like to repeat what I said before: the Monte Carlo is an excellent choice! Although you cannot really compare it to some of the more costly and prestigious resorts, it is definitely a place worth the money you pay. With such a significant difference in the price, you should definitely discover it and make your own opinion!
